Welcome to IIE Southern Regional Center
The Institute of International Education is committed to the proposition that peace and prosperity in the 21st century depend on increasing the capacity of people to think and work globally. In pursuit of this goal, since its founding in 1952, IIE's Southern Regional Center has been promoting international understanding through educational and professional exchanges by presenting Houston's cultural diversity and economic strengths to current and future world leaders and by creating opportunities for Houstonians to serve as citizen ambassadors.
Focus on the Gilman Award
Gilman Recipient, Jovonte Santos in Oman.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for study abroad, for US citizen students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university.
This program is offered through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education. Selected by competition, recipients are awarded up to $5000 to defray the costs associated with studying abroad.
Focus on the Menil Collection
The Southern Regional Center is decorated with a complementary blend of international and locally created art pieces on loan from the Menil Collection. Through the generosity of the Menil Collection, IIE proudly hosts these distinguished pieces of creativity.
